  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

Are these film, too? Or digital. Every photo you've ever put up, here or on Flickr, is distinctly you. That's a quiz I'd like to take. Put it on Facebook: click on the photos that are Claire Helene's.

These photos-- particularly the last one-- make me so homesick. *SO* beautiful. :)

Very Nice photos, Claire. Get some rest. I hope you do tell the story of the "hellish" experience.

I can't believe that photo of the farm house. It actually looks pleasant and homey. Photography is not to be trusted. Nice shots on the ridge, Claire. M

Sorry we'll miss you, Claire. We're heading up today.

Beautiful photos!

Oh Claire - I am sorry the megabus failed! But the photos are beautiful. Sending love your way! Elaine

I have been remiss in visiting your blog lately, and returned today to these gorgeous pictures! These are beautiful, especially the house picture.

(Thanks for the postcard!)
